End of the Line for Soprano and Piano-JEWISH CEMETERY (2)
“Music in the Holocaust is not an area of research for me. Musicological research and the psychological benefits of music, however, have always held great interest. As Sonja was collecting data, stories, details, and experience, I was more and more intrigued by the idea of finding texts and/or stories that might be set to music. Uniquely capturing an experience in the context of a musical work, especially one borne out of collaboration and research, seemed an out-of-the-ordinary way to sum up the experience. If Sonja’s stories and research prove that music counteracted the force of Nazi spirit-crushing, then music should be the extra-ordinary collaborative outcome of her research. I will wait for Sonja’s advice on the right text/story before embarking on a piece.”
