Viterbo University Student Music Compositions
2020-2021 - STANGER'S POEM PROJECT was a collaboration with street poet Benjamin Bernthal. Ben joined the freshmen and sophomore music classes via Zoom, listened to student stories, and composed each student a poem that could be set to music.
2019-2020--LIFENOTES 3, performed at music forum on January 24, 2020 in the FAC Choir Room (FAC 435). VU freshmen and sophomores wrote songs and choral works based on poetry inspired by influential people in their lives. Much of the poetry for this project was written by Marci Madary. 2018-2019--PROJECT GATEWAY, performed at music forum on January 25, 2019 in the FAC Choir Room (FAC 435). VU freshmen and sophomores wrote songs and choral works based on poetry by students at Gateway Christian School in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. 2017-2018--QABBANI SONGS, performed at music forum on January 26, 2018 in the FAC Starling Recital Hall. VU freshmen and sophomores wrote songs based on poetry by Qabbani, a Syrian poet recommended by Wassim Ibrahim (a Syrian composer who visited Viterbo University in 2017 and worked with VU music students). 2016-2017--A JOURNEY TO MIDDLE EARTH, performed at music forum on January 27, 2017 in the FAC Starling Recital Hall. VU music students collaborated with Whiteriea Institute of Technology poetry students (Wellington, New Zealand; Mary-Jane Duffy, instructor). 2015-2016--WEAVING WORDS and MUSIC, performed at the 2016 Humanities Symposium – “Behind the Wall” with Victoria Biggs (University of Manchester), as well as Scholars’ Day (April 22, 2016) 2014-2015--RUMI-NATIONS, performed at the 2015 Humanities Symposium – “Saint and the Sultan”, as well as Scholars’ Day (Spring 2015) 2013-2014--CCECHS MATES (Community Charter Early College High School), performed for Scholars’ Day and at Chippewa Falls High School (Spring 2014) 2012-2013--LIFENOTES 2, performed at the Western Wisconsin Educational Conference (February 15, 2013) and Viterbo University’s Scholars’ Day (Spring 2013) 2010-2011--LIFENOTES, performed at the Western Wisconsin Educational Conference (February 18, 2011) and Viterbo’s Scholars’ Day (April 29, 2011) 2009-2010--PEACE by PIECE, performed at the Western Wisconsin Educational Conference (February 19, 2010) and Viterbo’s Scholars’ Day (April 30, 2010) 2008-2009--EARTHTONES, performed at Viterbo University’s Good Earth Humanities Symposium (Spring, 2009) |
